Data Protection Information: What happens to my data?
- What data is collected in the context of the scientific research project?
The data collected includes information on your political interests and perspectives, voting history, teaching practices, demographic background, and limited personal information such as age and gender. Providing your personal contact information for the purpose of receiving an invitation to further research as part of the project is voluntary and will be collected in encrypted form, in addition to being anonymized.
- How will the data be processed in the scientific research project?
The collected data, i.e. the results of this survey, will be analyzed only by project staff at the University of Hildesheim. During the analysis, any identifying information (e.g. name) and other personal references will be altered, abstracted, or removed from transcripts.
The original data and recordings will be stored for at least 10 years in accordance with the guidelines of the German Research Foundation (DFG) on research data management to ensure good scientific practice, and will then be deleted.
In scientific publications, such as articles or conference presentations, no personal data will be published — all research findings will be presented without any reference to your identity.
Your contact information will be linked to a project ID and stored separately from the project data in different locations, accessible only to authorized staff involved in the research project, as well as approved researchers and assistants.
After the research project ends, your contact details will be automatically deleted, unless you explicitly consent to their storage for related future research. In that case, approved researchers may request access to your contact information to ask if you would like to participate in a related research project. Participation is, of course, voluntary and you may decline without providing any reason. You may also withdraw your consent for longer data storage at any time; your contact details will then be deleted.
- Who has access to the data and which persons or institutions can view it?
Access to your data is limited to the staff of the research project and authorized researchers and assistants at the University of Hildesheim. All individuals involved are bound to comply with data protection regulations. The data is protected against unauthorized access, and is stored and processed only on password-protected computers, which are maintained to a high standard of information security (e.g. up-to-date antivirus protection).
- What rights do individuals affected by data processing have?
Participation in this research project is voluntary; if you choose not to participate, you will not suffer any disadvantages. You may exercise the following rights at any time:
- Right to access your processed personal data (Art. 15 GDPR),
- Right to rectification of inaccurate personal data (Art. 16 GDPR),
- Right to erasure of your personal data (Art. 17 GDPR),
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- Right to object to the processing of your personal data (Art. 21 GDPR),
- Right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority,
- If you have given consent to the processing of your data, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time with future effect (Art. 7(3) GDPR).
